19 AR step up action in Tirap, nab suspected Rajkumar’s killer

 

ITANAGAR, Feb 7: 19 Assam Rifles which has launched a major offensive against the underground elements in Tirap district apprehended Self Styled Sergeant Major Ramchang of NSCN (IM) in a joint operation with Dist Police Khonsa today,

According to sources, Ramchang is one of the suspects named by Arunachal Pradesh Police in the assassination of former MP Wangcha Rajkumar in  2007. The assassination case is being handled by CBI.  

He is the NSCN (IM) Second -in - Command of Khonsa town but for the moment was Lazu town commander and had come to the town today and straight into the trap laid by security forces.                    

The  cadre will be handed over to CBI for further investigation, added the sources.

The unit had intensified efforts to seize him because of his involvement in the brutal assassination.

The cadre has admitted in the interrogation that he is a Sergeant Major operating in Tirap since Sep 2007 and apart from the reported involvement in   Wangcha Raj-kumar case, he was also involved in extortion, drug peddling and issuing threats to people of Tirap, sources said.

 

 

Thorough search of the cadre and his belongings lead to recovery of 200 grams of opium, 13 tablets of proxyvon (banned drug) and eight recharge coupons of BSNL and Airtel respectively. One motor cycle was also recovered nearby which was being used by the cadre.

After a detailed interrogation by a joint team of AR and District Police; the cadre and all items recovered along with motorcycle were handed over to the police.

The arrest comes within 72 hours of apprehension of SS Captain Angam NSCN (IM), Khonsa town Commander.

 

Mega health camp at Tuting

YINGKIONG, Feb 7: Alo Libang,MLA along with  Pawan Kumar Sain, DC, Upper Siang District inaugurated a Mega Medical camp at Tuting on  Feb 4.

The Mega health camp was organized by the Society for Health, Education and Rural Upliftment (SHERU) in collaboration with Siang Health Mission and District Health Society, Upper Siang with the motto “To reach the un-reached.’ A team of specialist doctors including Dr. M. Jini, Dr. E. Rumi,  Dr. T. Doke, Dr. R. Doye, Dr.  B. Borang, Dr. T. Tali, Dr. G. Lollen, Dr. B. Riba, Dr. G. Litin, Dr. J. Taloh, Dr. K. Riba, Dr. R. Komboh, Dr. J. Tekseng, Dr. Obang Modi of Celina Dental Clinic, Yingkiong conducted the mega health camp. More than 2000 patients were treated including 32 cases of Tubectomy, 8 eye operation, 8 ENT operation and 6 General Surgery (including 4 general Anaesthesia cases). Besides these, 30 cataract cases were screened which will be operated upon at Yingkiong, District Hospital in the 1st week of March, 2010.

Awareness programme for T.B. and AIDS was held on the occasion.  

The camp could be held successfully because of the initiative and funding of Alo Libang and active co-operation of the District Administration.

MLA inaugurates micro hydel station

Later Alo Libang inaugurated a 50 KW capacity of Micro Hydel station at Ngaming village which will supply power to Ngaming and Jido villages. This has been constructed by HPD under PM’s package.

Pawan Kumar Sain inspected the ongoing BADP schemes at Tuting. He also inspected Kodak bridge site which will connect Tuting and Singa circle  and advised for more efforts  for satisfactory progress. He also inspected the construction of infrastructure development for sports complex at Tuting which is near completion.

On Feb 5, Pawan Kumar Sain along with P. Jain, OC, BRO tracked to Bishing village, the last border village of Gelling circle and inspected the ongoing BADP schemes and the proposed schemes to be implemented soon. He informed that an amount of Rs.40 Lacs  has been earmarked for the area and appealed all to co-operate in the development of the area.

The OC, B.R.O. assured all possible help for the development of the area. DIPRO

 

National Integration Camp

ITANAGAR, Feb 7: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Itanagar under the ministry of youth affairs and sports, government of India is organizing 7-day national integration camp under the theme ‘cultural unity our strength’ at youth hostel, Naharlagun from February 8-14.

MLA Tamiyo Taga would inaugurate the camp on February 9 at VK Hall, RK Mission, Itanagar.

Delegates from the six states of north east are likely to participate in the camp.

 

UAEA to act as watchdog

ITANAGAR, Feb 7: Taking concerned over the ever increasing number of unemployed engineering graduates in the state and to strengthen the association, the Unemployed Arunachal Engineers’ Association (UAEA) held a mass meeting at Itanagar today.

The association decided to act as watchdog in government’s development works in the state and the meeting unanimously adopted  a resolution demanding proper implementation of recruitment rules (RR) in all the departments of the state.  The meeting demanded that JE Exams of all the departments should be conducted by APPSC, the result of all the technical exams of the state should be declared at earliest to stop manipulation and list of the selected candidates in any written and viva-voce exams should be published and mentioned in merit order, question papers of the technical exams should be in standard relevant to the subject.

 

IPPI prog conducted

 

ITANAGAR, Feb 7: As a part of the second phase of nation-wide Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) campaign, around 300 children were administered polio drop  at  138 Bn CRPF unit hospital campus, Senki View today. The programme was conducted under the direction of CRPF commandant Bhupendra Kumar.

Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) also conducted the IPPI programme at Deed Neelam PHC in Lower Subansiri district. Nearly five-hundred children were administered OPV at eleven booths of this PHC, sources said.

 

Namdapha Festival concludes with a call to uphold its spirit

Miao, Feb 7: The 3day 5th Namdapha Eco-cultural Festival organised here from February 5 has concluded this evening with a call to uphold its upbeat spirit. MLA Kamlung Mossang, participating as the chief guest has called upon the people to lend their support in realising the objective of the unique festival.

The MLA, while giving away prizes to winners of various events conducted during the celebration, thanked the people for making the event a success, and asked them to maintain this spirit. He said that through successful celebration of the festival with the support of all sections of people, the economy of the region can be transformed.

The festival started in 2004 with a twin objective of promoting the rich cultural heritage of the people of the district and preservation of environment, Namdapha Eco-cultural Festival has drawn the attraction of people from far and wide. This year also hundreds of curious visitors especially from neighbouring Assam and various places of the district have visited Miao and other tourist spots such as Namdapha national Park and other places.

Sethai Sena, the organising president has expressed satisfaction about the festival. He informed that a few new events including river rafting have been added to the events this year and a few more would be included in the coming year to attract more visitors from outside.

The three-day event has witnessed tremendous popularity as was seen by the thronging of thousands of people particularly the youth. Joy Chakravarty, the singing sensation of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa fame has also performed to give a boost to the celebration during the concluding programme besides several other local artists and groups.

Other major events conducted were eco-run, river rafting and fashion shows of both modern and traditional wears. DDIPR

               

                 Misuse of ‘press’ tag  be checked

ITANAGAR, Feb 7: The Itanagar Press Club (IPC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) in a general body meeting here today took serious note of blatant misuse of ‘media’ or ‘press’ tag by many who are in no way involved in any press activities.

Many four- and two-wheelers have been carrying ‘press’ tags or identity cards invariably without any check, which could have far-reaching repercussions and the media fraternity could be blamed in case of any unwanted eventuality.

Therefore, the press fraternity felt it necessary to take up the matter with the authority concerned for immediate steps to check such misuse.

In the general body meeting, the press fraternity also exhorted the state government to expedite the establishment of a Soochna Bhavan.

 

Social activist cum doctor awarded

ITANAGAR, Feb 07: The All India Business Development Association (AIBDA) under the aegis of Global Society for Health and Economic Growth conferred the prestigious Bharatiya Vikas Ratna Award to Dr. Gayetri Gogoi recently in recognition of her meritorious services in the fields of health and economic growth of the society recently.

The Kazakhstan envoy to India presented the Award to Dr. Gayetri in the presence of former Chief Election Commissioner Dr. GVG Krishnamurthy, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Maj.Vedprakash and a host of other eminent personalities of the country.

Dr. Gogoi, who is a social activist cum writer, is also serving as a doctor in the Department of Pathology in the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) Dibrugarh. Dr. Gogoi is also the honorary Nodal Officer of the Prayas Janahit Swasthya Seva Kendra in Wakro of the Lohit district which is managing a Primary Health Centre (PHC) under the  Public Private Partnership program of the National Rural Health Mission in Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Gogoi was appointed as Zonal Advisor for the North East for the world’s biggest UNICEF sponsored study on “Child Abuse 2007” conducted by the Ministry of Woman and Child Development, Government of India.
